The History of Hyundai's Development
Hyundai’s origins date back to 1947, when Chung Ju-yung and his family founded a small auto repair shop in South Korea. Within a few years, the business grew into a construction company, laying the foundation for a powerful industrial conglomerate that would later become one of the largest in the country.
By the 1960s, Hyundai had firmly established itself as a major player in South Korea’s construction sector, successfully implementing large-scale infrastructure projects supported by the government. In 1965, the company began expanding abroad, launching operations in Vietnam, Guam, and Thailand.
On December 29, 1967, Hyundai Motor Company was officially launched — an entity that would go on to become one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers. Today, Hyundai operates production facilities in South Korea, the United States, China, India, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Russia. In 2006, the company introduced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, reaffirming its commitment to environmental innovation.
